Sunday Salon – The Devil’s Code – John Sandford

Posted by admin | Great Fiction | Sunday 9 May 2010 13:01

You know computers could really be “The Devil’s Code!”

Every hackers dream is to disrupt!

Every hackers dream is to steal!

Can hackers bring down our way of life as we know it now?

What did Jack Morrison know?

Why was he murdered?

What does AmMath Corporation have to hide?

St. John Corbeil, President of AmMath, is he a ruthless killer?

Did Lane Ward, Jack’s sister, have anything to do with his death?

Did the National Security Agency have Jack killed?

Wow, a lot of questions raised by the this olde but goode novel about one of Mr. Sandford best characters, Kidd.

Computers are now such a part of just about everyone’s life. We surf the web, we blog, we pay bills, we purchase merchandise, we absorb a lot of instantly breaking news, and probably the latest and greatest dimension is the social media aspect where we closely interact with our fellow computer enerds!

Kidd was a computer expert in a circle of hackers that included Jack Morrison.

Lane received information from Jack in the event of his death to contact Kidd to help her find his killer.

Little did Kidd and his partner LuEllen realize that they was about to step into a government conspiracy that was far “above” the megabits they were used to dealing with!

Yes this is a great novel for the net conspiracy buff!

As always I do not like to reveal to much of the plot and encourage you get “The Devil’s Code” for yourself and enjoy!

Sunday Salon – The First Counsel – Brad Meltzer

Posted by admin | Great Fiction | Sunday 11 April 2010 16:28

My wife and I started dating in high school.

Our families were much the same with both fathers working and both mothers homemakers.

Values were taught through our family life.

I am glad my Dad was not a politician, nor my future father-in-law.

The peer pressure was enough, but I cannot imagine being a daughter or son of an American President. Even dating one or the other!

But Michael Garrick, who works at the White House for Edgar Simon the lead counsel for President Hartson, crosses my comfort line as is dating Nora, the President’s daughter.

Nora or Shadow, her Secret Service code name, has the young lawyer spellbound with her thrill a minute lifestyle.

Their first date turns into a “back-breaker” for Michael as he and Nora spot his boss Mr. Simon dropping a package in the woods which they retrieve, open, and keep part of the money enclosed.

This sets off a series of events only a loopy Nora could even dream of!

We go from a tour of the inner White House to the FBI to friends to family to mind-games to political opponents to love to death to losing jobs and just about every other emotion between!

Yes, this is an old read for some of you, but a most intriguing novel!

Well done Mr. Meltzer!

Sunday Salon – You’ve Been Warned – James Patterson

Posted by admin | New Novels | Sunday 7 February 2010 15:39

Could you be dead and not realize that you are?

Are you dead, Kristin Burns?

Is your affair with your boss, Michael Turnbull, just in your imagination?

Are your alleged photographic abilities a liability?

Why do some people cringe and seem petrified when they see you?

Are you dreaming or in another dimension?

What if James Patterson is telling us of life after death?

Do you believe?

A confounding novel!

Many thanks for another great Christmas gift as I read “You’ve Been Warned.”

Yes, this is a different kind of read from Mr. Patterson, but why not!

Change is good!

Many reviewers online rate this book poorly, but this outstanding read kept me spellbound!

Every book by Mr. Patterson does not have to be about Alex or the Woman’s Club!

The many twists and turns had me wondering what was going to happen next.

Every fact of life was covered: life, death, love, kids, sex, jobs, greed, lies, truth, marriage, single, schools, deceit, lust, ghosts, nightmares, and life-after-death!

Every book is not for everybody, but change is good! Read “You’ve Been Warned” for yourself!

Sunday Salon – Pursuit of Honor – Vince Flynn

Posted by admin | New Novels | Sunday 24 January 2010 15:15

As I ponder what to write on this rain-soaked Sunday, the characters are really what make “Pursuit of Honor” so realistic!

Mitch of course is his usual pragmatic self, but the terrorists, there is something different. Is there really a soul in an al Qaeda member? Can he feel for the infidels? Do they really battle among themselves over whom to kill?

What is the real reason behind Glen Adams operation to get to Mitch Rapp? Is he really a moralist? Or a self-appointed judge of the CIA?

Are Mitch’s interrogation methods too harsh?

Are Mike Nash and Hakim “blood” brothers?

I never like to reveal too much about an outstanding novel, so yes get Vince’s latest for yourself!

Sunday Salon – Do You Crack Under Pressure? Vince Flynn

Posted by admin | New Novels | Sunday 17 January 2010 14:22

Do you crack under pressure? At your job, as a husband, as a wife, as a father, as a mother… well do you?

What if instead of going to the office to shuffle papers, or building a skyscraper, or giving care at the hospital
you had to hunt down and kill terrorists!

Would you crack?

Not only does Mitch Rapp have to chase down terrorists, but he has to “babysit” his own man. Mike Nash who was recruited by Mitch is having problems.

In Vince Flynn’s newest novel “Pursuit of Honor“, a group of unknown terrorists attack in Washington, DC at the National Counterterrorism Center and kill 185 citizens. Mike and Mitch are in the middle of the attack and Mike’s heroics save many people.

Wait a minute, did I say unknown terrorists?

Of course not, they are from al Qaeda. The Lion of al Qaeda. Karim, Hakim, and Ahmed. Where are they? In Iowa? In Arkansas? Can Mitch find them?

What does Glen Adams, the Inspector General at the Justice Department, have to do with the attacks? Is he a traitor?

Another great read from Vince Flynn so far… more next week!
