Sunday Salon – Can a Politician be Bought? The Appeal

Posted by admin | Great Fiction | Sunday 22 November 2009 15:11

appealsmDoes money really play into most political races? Sure!

Does the media affect and effect our mindset as to who we support in these races?

Ron Fisk , a goody two shoes lawyer, is “talked” into running for supreme court justice in Mississippi against the “liberal” Sheila McCarthy.

Little does he know the setup!

Everything he says, every appearance, every handshake is orchestrated by Carl Trudeau’s money to get his lawsuit thrown out!

Could this really happen?

If we only knew what really goes on behind the scenes!

Payton and Payton wind up with nothing!

Much more the sick people of Bowmore wind up with nothing!

Mr. Grisham, you made me step back and think again!

Read “The Appeal!”

Sunday Salon – The Appeal by John Grisham

Posted by admin | Great Fiction | Sunday 15 November 2009 19:13

appealsmJust the usual John Grisham novel, good characterization, small community, people suffering, and lawyers ranting.

Getting the verdict first was different, but I should have known, the title “The Appeal.”

I guess the first real surprise, thinking that a law firm would actually sacrifice everything to help a fellow citizen out!

In the small town of Bowmore, Mississippi, Mary Grace Payton of the law firm Payton & Payton knew everyone after all she had lived in Bowmore.
This story is the classic case of big business versus the little man on the street.

Not only in lawsuits, but in politics as well.

Will the money hungry Carl Trudeau, CEO of Krane Chemical cough up the $41 million awarded to the Payton’s client?

Will he settle out of court?

Who is Ron Fisk?

Who is Sheila McCarthy?

Find out some answers next week…

Sunday Salon – Act of Treason by Vince Flynn

Posted by admin | Great Fiction | Sunday 1 November 2009 17:37

actoftreasonThe age old story of man falling!

Love rules all!

Power drives man!

Kill thy enemies!

Even if the enemy is your wife!

Mitch Rapp is my kind of man, he does his own thing!

Terrorists are in our own mind!

Who are they really?

The man in the red ball cap?

As the motorcade was rolling down the street on that fateful, autumn day in Georgetown, the blast was so intense the Presidential candidate’s  wife and several others were incinerated. They were in the second car of the line, why was this significant?

Mitch Rapp, special agent, wanted to know.

Why did no one investigating this terrible tragedy listen to Secret Service Agent Rivera account of the man behind the tree with the red ball cap?

Surely al-Qaeda had to be responsible for this attack!

Agent Rapp in his usual reckless way of getting to the bottom of things would “kill” his way to the answer!

Another great novel by a fantastic author!

Posted by admin | Great Fiction | Sunday 27 September 2009 13:02

deadevenWhen Jared was told about the new client, he saw his promised partner status move way up the board. Little did he realize that Oscar Rafferty was a diabolical menace!

You see Mr. Rafferty and his henchman, Tony Kozlow had plans for Jared and Sara Tate so that would not finish “Dead Even!” Jared had to win the case or Sara would be snuffed!

Jared could not tell his wife, the assistant DA prosecuting this case, anything about the “agreement” with Rafferty and Kozlow.

The insignificant burglary had turned into a murder/love triangle!

Sara was very frustrated with her husband seeing him going through her briefcase.

Who is “Sunken Cheeks?” Who?

Well it seems that Oscar and Tony have a protege on Sara’s side of the case as Sunken Cheeks threatens Jared’s life if Sara does not win the case.

As this case unfolds with many twists and turns, the novel is an enjoyable read!

Sunday Salon – Dead Even – Are You Sure?

Posted by admin | Great Fiction | Monday 21 September 2009 13:42

deadevenI did not “even” know where this book came from!

Looking for another there, “dead” ahead I spotted ” Dead Even!”

Never thought about being dead even with my wife, we both have our places, but ,yes, maybe as husband and wife we are “even.”

Sara Tate knew she was not even with her husband, she had lost her job as an attorney!

Jared Tate works as an attorney at the highly regarded law firm of Wayne and Portnoy. While he has been there several years, the pressure to bring in new business has Jared wondering about his own position.

After months of searching for a new position herself, Sara, is hired as an assistant district attorney. Now they are even…

Needing to get started fast in her new job, Mrs. Tate “steals” a case off the desk of Evelyn Katz the secretary of the Early Case Assessment Bureau. The case was marked with a yellow Post-it note, “Request for Victor Stockwell.” Vic of course being the star of the ADA office. Sara gets back to her office and realizes the case is nothing but a burglary job done by a local criminal named Tony Kozlow. Little did she know this case could cost her her life, her husband’s life, and much more!

Watch for more details next week…  (power outage on Sunday)
